Ghosts? At My Schools?

tiredReading-- The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
Listening to-- the afternoon session of General Conference
It's funny how you can live most of your life in one place and not hear of something in your town or in the surrounding areas. Or even at the schools you've attended! Something as interesting and potentially freaky, or newsworthy--once upon a time--as a ghost story. While waiting for permission to add a humorous post I found on a blog associated with the Soul Food Café, I noticed two links on Anita Marie's Halloween blog, that led to real ghost stories, or paranormal incidences at least, in the U.S. Out of curiosity, I clicked on my state of Idaho.
Surprisingly, according to the two sites that came up, both of the institutions for Higher Education that I attended: Rick College (now BYU-I) and ISU, are supposedly haunted. Or at least, one or two of their buildings are. I never knew this, until today, years after I've graduated!
According to the Shadowlands website, a lil girl was allegedly murdered near the Hart Gymnasium on Ricks College's campus. "She walks from the east door of the Hart to the Romney building and then back to the Hart again. She gets mad if you get in her path."
Most of my "haunts" when I was a student there were the Spori building...which is where the Mass Communications dept. is, the Romney for science/math?, the Manwaring Center (the Student Union), the Smith building for religion, the McKay Library and yes, the Hart for devotionals. Not once, while I was there, did I experience any unusual or paranormal occurences, nor did I hear any professor or any student mention this ghost or any unusual phenomena. I also asked my mother just now if she'd heard of this ghost story when she was a student herself at Ricks. She hadn't; in fact, this is the first time she's ever heard of a ghost at our ole alma mater. So honestly, I don't know what to believe. It doesn't say who contributed the information.
As for ISU, it has two buildings listed as being haunted. Frazier Hall and Graveley Hall. According to HauntedHouses.com, "Frazier Hall had long been the home of ISU's fine theater program. It has four floors and a basement, a large 800-seat Proscenium theater, a 140-seat Little theater, a costume shop, a design studio and classrooms. Most new theater productions will be held now in the newly constructed L.E. and Thelma Stephens Performing Arts Center, a modernized larger building which meets the needs of the growing student population.
"However, it is thought that some entities still prefer to hang around Frazier Hall."
- An entity named Alex haunts the building. Loves to play tricks on the living.
- Unseen presences don't allow the fact that they are dead to stand in the way of their piano practicing or enjoyment of the theater!
- Apparitions of theater lovers have been known to appear and sit in the audience.
- Footsteps are heard traveling around the 4th floor.
HISTORY:
"Named after Lottie M. Graveley, who was the first woman to be appointed to the State Board of Education. Built in 1939 to be a women's residence hall, It was later renovated and structurally changed into classrooms and offices. Several people committed suicide in this building."
- A strong presence is felt in the building.
- Just-locked windows have been found opened a few minutes later when no one else living was in the building.
- An obliging, friendly entity has been known to open doors for the living.
"Yes indeed!
"Stories from the custodians and others who find themselves in these buildings have given their testimonies. Ghosts of Idaho paranormal investigators have done some investigating and have listed both buildings as being haunted."
Once again, while I was there at ISU, I experienced and heard nothing about these ghosts. True, I never was in Frazier Hall, but I did take a class on stress management in Graveley Hall one semester. Sorry to say, not once did I have an unseen helper open a door for me. And believe moi when I say, it would have been muchly appreciated by moi, because that building is old and far from being accessible. It's elevator is a freight elevator; my wheelchair barely fit inside once the gate was closed! And I was screwed if someone forgot to close the gate, because the elevator won't move unless the gate's firmly latched.
Anyways, I believe Graveley Hall could be haunted, and maybe even Frazier Hall. But I can't corroborate, as I never experienced an encounter with any ghost while in Graveley. Pity... Back then I would have loved to.
