Feeling--bloated
Reading-- The Candy Shop War by Brandon Mull
Listening to-- nothing

I know the next Disability Blog Carnival is not for another week or so, but I wanted to get my post up so I'm not scrambling at the last minute--like I did before--and have it barely miss being added to the latest edition... This time, Emma's the hostess, and she's chosen a great topic, one very much to my liking: SUPERMAN!! Heheheh, some of my readers are probably smiling indulgently now, as they know quite well my...enthusiasm for Superman/Clark Kent. I am a true blue, eternal, die hard fan of the Man of Steel. Yessiree bob.

As I'm still mentally and emotionally low on oomph from the recent loss of a dear friend, I thought I would take it easy and just share some quotes by Christopher Reeve, an amazing man and actor who first turned me on to Superman. Who later became a self advocate himself after the equestrian accident in 1995 that left him paralyzed from the neck down. I hope this is acceptable.

  • "When the first Superman movie came out, I gave dozens of interviews to promote it. The most frequent question was: What is a hero? My answer was that a hero is someone who commits a courageous action without considering the consequences. Now my definition is completely different. I think a hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. They are the real heroes, and so are the families and friends who have stood by them."

  • "So many of our dreams at first seem impossible, then they seem improbable, and then, when we summon the will, they soon become inevitable."

  • "Don't give up. Don't lose hope. Don't sell out."

  • "You've got to give more than you take."

  • "I refuse to allow a disability to determine how I live my life. I don't mean to be reckless, but setting a goal that seems a bit daunting actually is very helpful toward recovery."

  • "You play the hand you're dealt. I think the game's worthwhile."

  • "I think we all have a little voice inside us that will guide us. It may be God, I don't know. But I think that if we shut out all the noise and clutter from our lives and listen to that voice, it will tell us the right thing to do."

  • "There will be ups and there will be downs, there will be times when things make sense, there will be times when they won't, but you'll always be on an adventure of meaning if you live for self, family, and others."
