Superman (It's Not Easy)
I can't stand to fly
I'm not that naļve
I'm just out to find
The better part of me

I'm more than a bird...I'm more than a plane
More than some pretty face beside a train
It's not easy to be me

Wish that I could cry
Fall upon my knees
Find a way to lie
About a home I'll never see

It may sound absurd...but don't be naļve
Even heroes have the right to bleed
I may be disturbed...but won't you concede
Even heroes have the right to dream
It's not easy to be me

Up, up and away...away from me
It's all can all sleep sound tonight
I'm not crazy...or anything...

I can't stand to fly
I'm not that naļve
Men weren't meant to ride
With clouds between their knees

I'm only a man in a silly red sheet
Digging for kryptonite on this one way street
Only a man in a funny red sheet
Looking for special things inside of me

(Inside of me
Inside me
Yeah, inside me
Inside of me)

I'm only a man
In a funny red sheet
I'm only a man
Looking for a dream

I'm only a man
In a funny red sheet
And it's not easy, hmmm, hmmm, hmmm...

It's not easy to be me

Five For Fighting

Seeing this song as part of my Powerful, Personal Songs List should come as no surprise to those who know me. After all, I am quite the avid Superman/Clark Kent fan. He was my first crush and love. In fact, even though he's fictional, he'll always be my main crush.

I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it on the radio, and it broadened my view of the Man of Steel. For the first time, I saw the emotional side of him, the vulnerable and human side. The song fleshes him out more for me, makes him more than just a near-invincible superhero, whose only known weaknesses are caring and kryptonite. For the first time, I saw beyond the suit and cape; I saw Clark. How he views himself in a world not originally his own.

Every time I listen to Superman (It's Not Easy) by Five For Fighting, I am reminded of how I now see Clark Kent/Superman. He may be more than human, with his super powers, but he is only a man. A man with two identities, one most everyone likes, and the other...a regular Joe Blow who's just another face in a crowd. A man with the same emotions, feelings and thoughts the Earthlings around him have. Like everyone else, (in this song) he wants to be seen for his true value.

He wants to know there's something worthwhile, something special about him that doesn't involve his powers.*soft smile* This song made him more human, more vulnerable and less of an idol for me.
Did you know...?
Superman was also known as the Man of Tomorrow in his early comics.
